September Review

My life back home in Germany already feels so far away. But I still wanted to write this September Review to remember my last days with my friends and not miss out on this time when I’ll be going through my monthly reviews in the future.

For my time in Australia, I plan to write diary style blog posts every few days or every week to update you and have a diary for myself about my journey.

So this September Review will only be about the time in Germany until the 19th and afterwards, posts of my first days in Melbourne will follow!

I’ll also include some favourites of the month because I won’t make extra favourite posts anymore.

Review

My September hasn’t been that exciting as I was just preparing a lot as well as spending quality time with my family and friends.

I enjoyed the last bits of summer at the pool, went to the lake, scrolled through my hometown and did all the usual stuff.

I tried to eat as healthy as possible because I wasn’t sure if I could always afford all the good veggies and fruits so I wanted to really enjoy it in my last days. As well as doing sport because the first days somewhere new I usually don’t feel like going for a run or working out. Especially now that I have to stay in hostels without a private room to do a home workout and a big city like Melbourne, where it isn’t really nice to go for a run…

On Sunday I went to Wernigerode with my best friend because I’ll maybe start studying there next year so I wanted to have a look at the town. It is very cute and lovely, but not much going on… the problem is, that I can’t study the subject of International Tourism Management anywhere else that is not super far from my home, so I’ll have to get along with it.

In Wernigerode, they had these “snowball” called cookies, so we had to try them but got disappointed. It’s just boring dough with lots of sugar and cinnamon (or whatever flavour you take).

Luckily, I got the chance to still go to a new completely vegan restaurant that just opened up in Magdeburg, called Botanica and ate dinner there with my friends. Not just their interior is super cute, green, cozy and just lovely but also their food was amazing. I had a smoked tofu wrap with a very dense “meat-y” sauce which was amazing and a chocolate-pear cake for dessert. I’ll for sure go back right away when I’m home to try all the other meals on their menu!

I also finally got these reusable cotton shopping bags that my mom is now taking to the supermarket. I really hope that it will be common soon to use these instead of plastic bags and until then my mom will be a good example for everyone!

One Saturday me and my parents went to my family’s farm and I was so happy to be able to go there again before leaving for Australia. They have some animals as well as the best grapes ever and we were lucky to get there at the perfect time to take some home.

And then it was time to say goodbye to all my friends. But before we had a wonderful weekend and got to spend a lot of time together before everyone is going to different directions now.

First, we went to the vacation home of my best friend (where we also stayed at after finishing exams in May) to celebrate her and her boyfriend’s birthday. We had a lovely evening, night and morning with good conversations, amazing food, a campfire and fun board games.

For the party, I baked this vegan poppyseed-cheesecake which was super yummy! I love poppyseeds but I haven’t baked with them myself before. When I, now that I am writing this, think about cooking, baking and my kitchen at home, I really wish to be at home and be able to try out recipes… I already miss that!

You can find the recipe here!

The next day we drove straight to Leipzig where another friend is at dance school now. We met her in her new apartment, talked a lot because we haven’t seen each other in ages and made food (as per usual haha). I really fell in love with her apartment interior and I would love to have one myself one day and make it look beautiful just as she did.

Here you can see some interior inspiration by @jule.popule as I really love her interior style!

And then on my last Sunday, it was the day of saying goodbye to all my friends. I invited them for brunch and we had a wonderful day with good food (again! Haha) and more conversations. I’m really going to miss these casual days/ evenings/night with my friends where we just cook, eat and talk…

For my brunch, I baked some amazing vegan brownies with cherries that were so unbelievable yummy, chocolately, creamy, moist, fruity and fresh (because they are made with vegan yogurt), so I highly recommend you to try this recipe by elefantasticvegan!

I also finally made time to go horseback riding again after ages and it was so much fun! I really hope that I’ll be able to find a job on a horse ranch here in Australia so that I can be around horses again.

Last full Month Home | August 2018

The end of August means the beginning of September. The month that I’ll be leaving Germany, my home, my family and fly to Melbourne, Australia. I can’t believe that the time I dreamt of every day when I sat at school or laid in bed is almost there.

Only a few days until I leave my easy, safe and comfortable life behind and dive into the adventure of travelling solo through a new country on the other half of the world.

I feel like I still have so many things to do / I still want to do so many things before I leave. Want to prepare, pre-ride etc. but there isn’t enough time to do so and there are new to-do’s coming every day – I just cannot be 100% ready. That’s not how life works… but it’s hard for me to accept that.

I just have to take everything as it comes, go with the flow, be spontaneous and enjoy the ride!

But for now, we are going to look back on this wonderful month: August 2018!

Review

July ended and August started with a three day trip to Vienna with Anna. We had an awesome time together, enjoyed and explored the city and the weather. Three days full of new places, adventures, good food and the best company!

After coming home I immediately left again for some hours to go to Leipzig and meet Katja from amoureuxee to take some pictures. I already used some of them in my blog post about Role models on the Internet.

But my favourite pictures are the ones that illustrate a topic that is very close to my heart. I wrote this post „We Drown in Plastic“ that I am very proud of and I want to discuss sustainability, less waste, greenness and minimalism on my blog more in the future, because they are very important to me and I want to get into them more as well.

With my two best friends I went to Berlin for one day and we went to Brandy Melville, a Second-Hand Shop and „My Deli Love“ to eat vegan Wraps that were super yummy and an Acai Bowl that was not good at all – sadly. But all in all it was a lovely day!

IMG_5001IMG_5004

Some days later I went to Crops (went there at least every second week the past month :D ) with a good friend that I’ve been friends with since we were babies. We don’t see each other very often, but if we do it’s always a lovely time.

We both ate this Bomb Salad with quinoa, sweet potato, greens, apple, pomegranate and hemp seeds and it was amazing! Afterwards, I had a chocolate mousse cake which was yummy too, but not the best I had at Crops.

With my best friend I went to the Mogli Concert in Leipzig and we had a wonderful time enjoying her music and the beautiful atmosphere!

Before we scrolled through the streets of Lindenau, Leipzig and I totally fell in love! I really would like to study here because the vibe of the city is amazing and it has so many cute, alternative and vegan places. Sadly I can’t study international tourism management here and that’s what I’d love to do…

Anyways, we walked around and fell in love with all the cute second hand / vintage / sustainable shops and the good food. Ate some yummy falafel wrap, had vegan chocolate ice cream that was the best I ever had (vegan & non-vegan – it was just so so good!) at „Softeisbude“ and a guy gifted us some mangoes and strawberries he saved from getting thrown away by the supermarket.

IMG_5141.JPG

I also went to a local market in Stadtfeld, Magdeburg that was super cute and to the movie „303“ with Tete some days later. We cooked lunch together one day and she also turned 18 this month and we had a nice afternoon with yummy birthday cake in her garden.

IMG_5085.JPG

Made these tasty Chocolate-Date-Bliss-Balls that I shared in my Healthy Snack / Treat Post with you!

Had cake and dinner with my family for my granny’s birthday and ate so much good food. Homemade cake and a walnut burger with sweet potato fries and a lovely evening with many good conversations.

IMG_5257.JPG

Anna, Tete & I are going to Bali together next summer (after I’ve been to Australia and before I’m coming home) so we researched and planned a bit and make no-bake peanut butter and chocolate pie on the side. I am already very excited to explore Bali, the islands around and it’s amazing food with these two!

IMG_5149.JPG

Before the weather gets colder now, I enjoyed the (maybe last) hot day at home at the pool and read and sunbathed.

IMG_5197.JPG

Plans

I am going to Wernigerode today with Tete to have a look at the town and their college because I’ll maybe start studying there next year.

Next weekend there is a Street Food Festival in Magdeburg which I am very excited about! We’ve been there every year and it’s so fun to try weird and typical food from all over the world.

I’m also going to host a going-away dinner with my family and the last weekend before I leave will be super crazy! We’ll celebrate the birthday of Tete and her boyfriend at Tete’s cottage where we’ve been in May this year the next day we’ll head to Leipzig to celebrate the new home of my friend Luisa that is doing a dance education there and on Sunday I’m going to make a brunch with my best friends to say goodbye to everyone and enjoy some time together before I leave.

On September 20th I’ll finally / sadly fly to Australia! On one hand, I can’t wait, on the other, I don’t want to go :D I’m already a bit nervous and so excited at the same time…

I hope you had a wonderful August and are as excited as I am for the new month! What are your plans? What are you up to?

Tropical Summer Feelings | July 2018

This weather is crazy! I can’t believe how lucky we are to have such a wonderful summer this year. Especially because I have lots of time to enjoy it (besides working – but still), soak it all in and it’s perfect to spend a lot of time with my friends before I’m going to be gone for a while.

I am still working on all the preparations for my adventure in Australia and I will probably share another post with my plans and some tips on how to plan your own longterm stay in Australia soon.

But for now, we are going to review the last month and look back on everything that happened in July 2018.

review

My month started with a family vacation to Portugal for two weeks where I really fell in love with the Algarve and its beautiful coastline.

I already posted two blog posts: one about some general information and recommendations for Portugal and all the cute little cities and towns that I suggest you to visit while your trip and the second one about our favorite beaches at the Algarve and two breathtaking photo spots you shouldn’t miss. Next week a post about our two days in Lisbon will follow.

AQLT4978.JPG

After being back home I started working again and tied to get as many hours as possible so I can save a lot for Australia and I also had to run some errands before I’m leaving. I needed to get a new passport, applied for my working holiday visa, searched for a good comfortable and light daypack and arranged some appointments at the doctor and dentist before I leave.

IMG_4093.JPG

I went to Leipzig with my friend to visit her new apartment because she is starting a dancing apprenticeship there and we scrolled through super cool streets. Leipzig is really awesome with vegan food and cute hipster cafés and I really would like to study there myself one day. We went to an Asian restaurant and ate freaking delicious food! I had a salad with tofu and a fresh lemon sauce, which was all I wanted in this weather and also Luisa’s ramen soup tasted amazing.

IMG_4141IMG_4145

After a way to long time I’ve been to Crops – a vegan bistro again with an old primary school friend and we ate their delicious quinoa and sweet potato salad and lots of yummy cake.

As per usual my monthly reviews only consist of food dates with friends :D But that’s just what we do – there isn’t any better combination than good food and good conversations with good friends!

IMG_4161.JPG

That’s why Luisa needed to show me a new Asian bistro that offers lots of very cheap, healthy and freaking yummy dishes. It’s called SU MO and I totally fell in love with this place. They have sushi, rice dishes, ramen, udon and salads on their menu as well as spring rolls and veggie dumplings as a starter and many vegan options with and without tofu and I really would like to test all vegan options in the future because they sound and look super good!

But for this time we went for udon soup (udon is a pasta soup with pretty thick „spaghetti“) as well as spring rolls and dumplings for starter and a passionfruit drink we shared and for all this deliciousness we only paid 16€!! We’ll definitely come back.

IMG_4369.JPG

Afterward, we went to IKEA to look for some furniture Luisa needs for her new apartment and I could not resist buying two new plates. I am just addicted to beautiful dishes :D

IMG_4389.JPG

The last weekend in July there is a free outdoor summer cinema in the park and we managed to at least go to one movie called „Weit“ (Engl. „wide“) a documentary about a couple who traveled for three years without flying and documented their journey and I can highly recommend watching it because it is very interesting and inspiring.

And something very wonderful happened to us: we were sitting next to a group of friends that were a bit older than us and they asked us if we would like to have some of their cake. I was so impressed by this yummy act of kindness and the blueberry chocolate cake tasted amazing!

For the last three days, I’ve been in Vienna for a city trip with Anna as you have probably already seen in my Insta-Stories. The reason why I’m not able to show you any pictures on here is that I am pre-writing this blog post, but I will for sure make a Vienna travel guide including all the cool spots that we visited, so stay tuned for that!

The vegan chocolate mousse tastes so yummy and is healthy at the same time!

plan

For August there are already some appointments scheduled. I am going to meet up with Katja from amoureuxee.de and we will hopefully take some lovely pictures together like we did last year.

IMG_2329.jpg
Here you can find the pictures we took last year!

I want to go to Wernigerode because I consider studying there and want to have a look at the uni and the town before. Also, I am going to meet up with my cousin who will visit me in Australia because we need to plan our three weeks together and book some accommodations for that time.

With my two best friends I am going to Berlin for one day to enjoy the capital city and its amazing vegan food and I am going to the Mogli Concert in Leipzig which I am so so excited about!

gratitude – things I am thankful for this month

  • I am very thankful for some rest, stillness and me-time on vacation without the pressure of working on my blog or preparing something for Australia because the internet at our Finca wasn’t very good and I took lots of time to read and chill in the sun.
  • I am so thankful for my brother who is totally into photography and videography for about a year which is so helpful and practical for me as well and it is so much more fun to think about good picture spots, locations etc. when your not alone and it’s easier to get amazing shots when your photographer knows what to do (at least kind of :D)
  • I am thankful for feeling happiness and excitement for my friends and to be pleased for exciting things happening in their life cause it makes me happy as well.

How has your month been? Did you go on vacation? How do you enjoy this hot weather?
