Früher habe ich ständig Food Diaries bzw. What I Eat in a Day Blog Posts gemacht, aber es ist nun schon eine ganze Weile her.
Ich selbst schaue sie aber immer noch so so gerne an – da bekommt man die beste Inspiration für seine eigenen Mahlzeiten und naja… Essen anschauen ist einfach ein Hobby! :P
Da ich mir für 2020 vorgenommen habe wieder mehr YouTube Videos zu kreieren und ich dafür nun endlich wieder etwas Zeit habe, nachdem die Prüfungsphase meines ersten Uni-Semesters vorbei ist, gibt es mein aller erstes What I Eat in a Day Video!
Ich hoffe, diese Art von Content gefällt euch ebenfalls und ihr habt Lust auch mehr Videos von mir zu sehen.

Once more I am impressed by how many great vegan options there are in Australia. Food shopping and eating out is so fun here because nearly everyone has vegan or at least vegetarian options on their menu.
As I had a very nice kitchen most of my time in Western Australia (I stayed at the City Perth Backpackers), I really enjoyed cooking something for dinner every day. I also got to enjoy some yummy food at the market in Fremantle and I am planning to go to ‚The Lord of the Fries‘ before I leave.
In my hostel, I also met two other veggie girls (one is completely vegan, the other mostly) and I had two lovely vegan picnics with Eugene from Korea which was so much fun!
My breakfast usually looked something like this. If you want to know how I make my healthy filling and delicious oats, head to this blog post!
But some days I also can’t resist just getting the free breakfast from the hostel, even though it isn’t a very healthy option – it just tastes very good… Peanut butter and strawberry jam on warm toast with a cup of tea. It’s also super delicious to mash some banana on a peanut butter toast :P
Right next to the market in Fremantle there is a vegan café called ‚Chick pea – vegan café‘ that sells some awesome vegan food. I think their menu changes, but when I was there they had lasagne, pumpkin gnocchi, different quiches, wraps and some sweets & treats and these amazing turmeric waffle toasts with tomato and cashew cheese. Super cheesy, flavourful and delicious!
I really try to get a lot of vitamins in each day, while still staying on a budget. But sometimes you just crave some freshly pressed juice and in comparison to fresh smoothie/juice prices in Germany, they are fairly cheap (around 7$ = 4,50€).
The left one is a green apple & celery juice and the right is carrot, beetroot, celery and kale.
Every Friday evening there is a Food Market in the city centre with many food stalls to choose from. I got some vegan Marroccanean tajine with lots of veggies and rice underneath and it tasted so so good!
Healthy Vegan Protein-rich Brownie
I really miss baking and testing yummy healthy recipes, but one day me and some friends had nothing to do, so I decided to bake some healthy black bean brownies with them. They turned out super yummy and because there is a bulk food store in the city, we could only buy however much we needed which was great (otherwise it just doesn’t make sense to buy huge amounts that you will never need).
1 can of black beans
a lot of soaked dates (we probably had about 25 because we only had the cheap ones that aren’t that sweet)
3/4 cup of plant-based milk
1/3 cup of flour (we used self-raising flour to skip the baking powder/soda, otherwise just add 1/2 tsp of each)
1/2 cup unsweetened cacao powder
optional: 1/2 cup crushed almonds & 3/4 cup of dark choc chips
Soak the dates in hot water
If you have a blender mix everything (besides the almonds and choc chips) very well and add the almonds and choc chips afterwards and stir them into the dough
If you don’t have a blender (like us) mash the soaked dates & mash the beans very well with a fork and then add everything else and mix to a dough
Bake at around 170 degrees for around 20 minutes, let it cool a bit and then cut and eat (they taste amazing when still warm)
I found 3 packages of this gluten free cacao porridge in the free food shelve and had that mixed into my normal oats (as one package would never be enough for me :D ). Also, the oranges here taste amazing – so sweet and juicy! So I had one before my oats for a few days.
This jackfruit sandwich was heavenly! Toasted so perfectly (how is this even possible?!) and seasoned very well. Props to Milk Belly Café in Fremantle for this amazing vegan option!
When you have leftover rice and walk into an Asian store to find nori paper – you make sushi! Even though this was just normal rice and I didn’t have a bamboo mat to help me roll, they turned out so so good! I filled them with warm tofu in soy sauce, avocado (of course) and some fresh baby spinach for the greens.
As I only had a little bit of rice and still some nori left, I just used couscous instead to make sushi and it was still pretty good.
Eugene and I took our food to the Kings Park to have a lovely picnic with the best view you can have in Perth. Besides the couscous sushi, we also had some mango, naan bread with hummus and tomato and rice with veggies and tofu.
In Perth, there is a vegetarian Indian all-you-can-eat restaurant called ‚Annalakshmi‘ which is located at Victoria Quay where you pay however much you want. I’ve been there twice and their food is super good. A little bit spicy, but healthy and so so filling.
I found a fairly cheap pineapple at the Golden Choice Market in Subiaco and it was amazing with my porridge. Super sweet, juicy and delicious when it gets warm in your oats.
Another evening, Eugene and I met at Monger Lake for another picnic. There was a summer festival going on that day as well, so we had our own food first and got some dessert afterwards at the food stalls (which also had a lot of vegan options).
We had an amazing fruit salad with cherries, mango, strawberries, orange and blackberries, some spring rolls, pasta with veggies and tomato sauce and fried rice with tofu sausage.
And later I got a strawberry-passionfruit popsicle while we listened to Christmas music at the summer festival.

In my first What I Eat in a day from Melbourne, I showed you a lot of very cheap, quick and easy meals I made in my first few days in Melbourne.
I really want to stay healthy, fit, mostly plant-based and eat on a budget while I travel, but I also want to try the amazing vegan food spots, enjoy my time and go out with friends.
That’s why you will find some restaurant recommendations for Melbourne in this post, as I went out for food quite a few times with my friends – and it was worth it!
Now I try to still keep on track with my money, but also enjoy the amazing (vegan) food they have here without any regrets!
On Saturday I had to leave my first hostel and move to Sabrina’s hostel in Fitzroy, so I enjoyed the free pancakes for the last time for breakfast.
I really wish they would not have them in most hostels for breakfast for free, because they aren’t vegan and pretty unhealthy but free – so it’s hard to resist :D
For lunch, I had some leftover pasta with my go-to sauce at the moment that I keep repeating. You can find the recipe in my last What I Eat post!
After watching the Football game in a pub, I was super stoked for some unhealthy burger (as many people ate them in the pub) and so we went to ‚Lord of the Fries‘ an all vegan fast-food burger chain. It tasted unhealthy, but awesome at the same time! I had a ‚fish-burger‘ and sweet potato fries with vegan aioli and only spend 20$ for that.
For breakfast, I met again with my AuPair mom in a wonderful, small and calm café called ’slowpoke‘ on Brunswick Street.
This time I ordered buckwheat chocolate granola with coconut yogurt, almond milk and pears which was super delicious and very filling. Luckily, I didn’t got the Avo Toast this time, as it could have never topped the one I had two days ago with her!
As a snack, I had some bread with hummus as well as carrots to dip.
Sadly, I forgot to take a picture from our actual dinner.
We had an oven roast with sweet potato, broccoli and capsicum with tomato chutney.
As a dessert, we got these funny Asian rice balls with peanut butter from the Asian supermarket.
They taste weird but okay and it was cool to try them.
As I had pretty much the same for breakfast most days / it didn’t look that great / I just forgot to take pictures I will only show you a few more meals I had in Melbourne.
My breakfast was either free pancakes with maple syrup, rice-porridge (that I showed you in part one) or toast and chocolate spread/strawberry jam at the free breakfast in my 2nd hostel.
Sadly it wasn’t as healthy as I imagined it, but it’s hard to decide between being cheap or healthy…
My last week in Melbourne was a little less tourist-y and more enjoying time with the friends I met. We went to the market to go food shopping and had a late breakfast / early brunch there. I bought a falafel wrap for 4$ (2,50€) at the food court which was very good as well as another slice of banana bread.
Even though the banana bread from Aldi is packed individually in plastic which sucks, it is so practical to take with you and not eat everything at once. And it also keeps it moist and yummy!
And if you wonder: yes! They have Aldi here :D
The day we went to Brighton Beach, I had olive ciabatta with olive hummus for lunch in the sunshine and the same for dinner with another slice of banana bread.
Another day Sabrina and me slept in and then made this amazing vegan pasta bolognese for lunch. Super easy, quick and delicious!
Quick Vegan Pasta Bolognese
You need: pasta, carrots, onion, tofu, tomato sauce, salt, some spices and a little bit of oil and soy sauce
How to: Boil pasta with salt. Fry chopped onion with a little bit of oil in a pan. Add chopped carrots and a bit of water and steam for a while. Mash firm tofu with a fork and sprinkle with soy sauce, add into the pan. Spice with salt, pepper, veggie broth, Italian herbs (whatever you have/like). Add tomato sauce and the cooked pasta.
If you like you can add cheese or nutritional yeast as well as fresh spinach & tomatoes to make it even more nutritious.
The next night we ate some leftover tofu fried with onion, capsicum and carrots in a wrap with hummus, tomato chutney and lots of spinach. I really like wraps and eat them a lot here because they are healthy, easy, variable and delicious!
One night we went to ‚Lentils as Anything‘ and it was a feast! We tried all the dished they had that evening and everything was just AWESOME! I am for sure going there in Sydney as well. Oh and everything is VEGAN by the way!

You can see that I couldn’t really resist eating out on my second week in Melbourne :D That’s just how it is when you meet people and want to enjoy your time with them and for me, that’s totally okay! I rather sleep in a 12-bed-dorm and live cheap as much as I can, but spend a little bit more on dining out with friends and having a wonderful time! Especially when it’s healthy and vegan food!
At ‚Madam Saigon‘ I had this amazing vegan noodle salad bowl for only 11$ (7€) which is amazingly cheap for eating out here!
My second hostel had a free soup night every Tuesday, so I had vegan carrot soup with bread and some more fresh carrots with hummus for dinner that night.
That’s more or less everything I ate in Melbourne! Besides my Breakfast mostly healthy and besides eating out mostly cheap :D
